Ok, here it is. This is my rantings about freeservers.com
You get a free site.
Ok. Cool.
You have to use banners.
That's ok. I don't mind the banners.
You have to pay $37.90 to upload your website.
WHAT THE FUCK!
I had my site all built. All the links worked, had every thing working fine. I attempt to upload it to freeservers and they tell me:
"oh, using Microsoft FrontPage is only allowed in the premium package ($17.95 per month + 19.95 setup fee) because of the special extensions it uses. However Macromedia Dream Weaver does not use these extensions."
I am slightly pissed, but ok. I have been wanting to get Dream Weaver for a while now and this gives me the perfect excuse. So I go out and I buy a out of date version of Dream Weaver off a friend for $25 + lunch. I transfer all my files into Dream Weaver, set it all up again and attempt to upload my site. Imagine my surprise.....
"Oh, you want to send your website through FTP? Sorry, but you can only do that if you purchase the premium package ($17.95 per month + 19.95 setup fee). Please click here to upgrade....."
Ok, for those of you that are not versed in Web page building. FTP is the ONLY WAY to load your site into a host without uploading it file by file and then fixing all the links. Hours of work. I had a site but I cant do anything with It!!
It would not be so bad if freeservers would just tell you these things up front. But they hide fact that you dont have this service until you absolutely need it and then come at you with a sales pitch!
So far the Host that I am using now, ZeroCatch, has been very upfront. I like how they tell me the limitations of my free account BEFORE telling me what they provide.
Another great host is DotEasy. They Give some great packages at low prices. They even have a Free BANNERLESS package! (must have your own domain name and pay a one time startup fee)
DotEasy will be the home of "ProfileofaShadow" and its sister site "Shadow's Den" late 2004 once this site kicks into gear and I break down and purchase a Domain name.
